Dr Birgitta Gatersleben is lecturer in Environmental Psychology at the University of Surrey. She is also Course Director of the Modular MSc programme in Environmental Psychology. Her work concentrates around three research areas: sustainable consumer behaviour, transport and human experiences with nature. Birgitta Gatersleben has a strong interest and a wide experience in working in multidisciplinary teams to examine sustainability issues. Her MSc (Leiden, The Netherlands) examined experiences with nature; PhD (Groningen, The Netherlands) explored the relationship between sustainable consumption and quality of life. Since arriving in the UK in 1998 she has been involved in a range of projects that have built on from this work, including the Framework 5 funded ToolSust project, and recently the ESRC funded RESOLVE project and the Framework 7 funded BARENERGY.
Birgitta is involved in the OHN network because of her interest in the restorative effects of nature experiences. Recent work in this area has explored visually impaired people's perceptions of nature and the effect of danger on environmental restoration.
