Scotlands Wild Landscapes – New Ways Forward.

Scotland’s Wild Landscapes - New Ways Forward is a conference and discussion forum organised by the Centre for Mountain Studies, Perth College UHI, in collaboration with Leeds University (Wild Land Research Institute), Lochaber College UHI, the Scottish Wild Land Group (SWLG), Scottish Natural Heritage, the Cairngorms National Park Authorityand The John Muir Trust.

13 - 14th May 2010, SNH Battleby Centre, near Perth

Venue: Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre

The Inaugural International Healthy Parks Healthy People Congress will explore how nature significantly contributes to our wellbeing and broader societal benefits. It is expected to attract over 1000 delegates from Australia and around the world. Participants will come from many different sectors including urban planning, community development, physical and mental health, tourism, education, recreation, ecology and park management (urban and protected area). This diversity of perspectives will allow delegates to understand the benefits of nature through the eyes of many.

Dr William Bird, a member of the OHN is a keynote speaker at this event.

Trees and forests in British society - April 2010

Over the last decade the Forestry Commission has funded a wide range of social research both through the Social and Economic Research Group (SERG) in Forest Research, and through academic and private research partners. This conference draws on that body of research, but also invites contributions from beyond, to explore and consolidate the state of current knowledge.

The objectives of the conference are to:

  • Discuss societal and economic trends shaping the management of British trees and forests in both urban and rural contexts
  • Share experiences of responses to these trends and how society can successfully engage with its woodland resource
  • Identify future research and policy directions needed to meet emerging challenges.
